The Marmara Region, that derives its name from the internal sea with the same name,is the smallest region of Turkey with a surface area of 67.000 km² and forms a passage between the Balkan Peninsula and Anatolia. It is the most densely populated of the seven geographical regions of the country. The Marmara Region is surrounded by Greece and Bulgaria to the northwest , the Aegean Region to the south and the Black Sea and Central Anatolia Regions to the east.
Provinces of the Marmara Region: Balikesir, Bilecik, Bursa, Canakkale, Edirne, Istanbul, Kirklareli, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Tekirdag, Yalova.
