Blue Mosque which is a great complex, consisted of a mosque, tombs, medreses, fountains, kitchens, a health center, shops, a bath, rooms, houses and storehouses is located at the Sultanahmet Square, opposite to the Hagia Sophia church. It is one of the most famous religious buildings of the world. Although, among the Turkish people it is called ‘Sultan Ahmet Mosque’ The mosque is known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior by tourist. Blue Mosque has become one of the greatest tourist attractions of Istanbul.

blue-mosque-3The Blue Mosque was built by Sultan Ahmet I and the architect of the construction was one of the apprentices of Sinan, Sedefkar Mehmet Aga. Construction began in 1609 and it was finished in 1616. When Sultan Ahmet died only a year after the completion ofthe mosque, at the age of 27 they burried him just outside the Blue Mosque.

The courtyard of the mosque has five enterandes and the mosque has six minarets.
