Cappadocia is the common name of the area covered by the provinces of Aksaray, Nevsehir, Nigde, Kayseri and Kirsehir in the Central Anatolian region.

The vulcanic eruptions occurred in Erciyes, Hasandag and Gulludag formed a large tableland from the vulcanic tufas in the upper Myosen period in the Cappadocia region. Erosion of the Kizilirmak river and wind over, formed the spectacular chimney rocks .

cappadocia-3The region has been occupied since the old Bronze age due to its geological aspect which is providing natural security. The area housed the Assyrian, Hittite, Frig, Pers, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman civilizations and the first Christians escaped from the persecution of the Roman Empire in the 2nd century B.C.

You can see many remains from early settlement, under ground cities, early churches and buildings in Cappadocia open air museum. While you are in the area you must definetely visit; Goreme, Urgup, Zelve, Avanos, Derinkuyu, Ortahisar, Uchisar, Ihlara Valley and underground cities.
